Minotaur
Minotaur: the beast within us all.
My take on the mythological half-man, half-bull child of lust, sin & shame: the Minotaur. The Minotaur was born to Queen Pasiphae to punish her husband, Minos for slighting the Sea God, Poseidon. Poseidon drove Pasiphae to lust for a snow-white bull Minos was supposed to sacrifice to the oceanic ruler, hence the beast was born. Neither human nor animal - the Minotaur required flesh & blood to be sated, horrifying the King as a demented token of his cuckolding. To hide the Minotaur from polite society, the labyrinth was constructed around them. Burying The Minotaur: symbol of shame & embarrassment, rage & lust at it’s center.
The Minotaur is shown in a more femme form, tied to their labyrinthine prison, with the start of the classic quote from Dante’s gates of hell: Abandon All Hope…at it’s entrance. After all, arent we all taught to build walls around the carnal side of ourselves that society deems distasteful…dont we all have a beast within?
