The Hermit: teacher meets wounded healer

My iteration of the tenth card in the Major Arcana casts The Hermit as Chiron - the sagacious centaur & reclusive teacher of Greek mythology, the Wounded Healer in Astrology. He has paused on the well worn path to his secluded home set high in the mountains where he lives in solitude. He has set down his basket of gathered olives - symbol of inner & outer peace, richness & wisdom, & yarrow - a blossom of love & immortality - BOTH strong plants of healing adorning the Grecian landscape.

The Hermit utilizes these plant allies to bolster him as he walks his personal path of deep inner seeking - he is full of wisdom & learning, both academic & instinctual. His staff is how he remains grounded & sure footed as he navigates the rocky terrain of higher knowing, while his lantern illuminates his next step…but only his next step, the dark path beyond his glowing lamp of knowledge requires he move with trust beyond that. The Hermit (as does Chiron) asks us to astutely navigate a period in our life where we benefit from being alone…but not lonely. Can you embrace a time of solitary learning, spiritual seeking & deep inner growth & healing without getting trapped in a fortress of solitude? Can you retreat to your lofty, mist-obscured, mental den in the moonlit mountains while not forgetting the path back to your community? This is work The Hermit asks of us.

9x12” print of original artwork by Kita (that’s me!) printed & packed in my very own studio in a biodegradable cellulose sleeve. Story card included.
