"Garlic Heal Me..." Banner

$60.00

Original garlic braid illustration & lettering : "Garlic Heal Me, Ancestors Protect Me" a melding of my Persian and Virginian cultural traditions. On one hand, we (Persians) include garlic (seer) on our Haft Sin - our New Year altar including seven items that start with the letter S, symbolizing all that we are calling in for the coming year - garlic symbolizing health. On the other hand, spending time in rural Virginia at my Grammy's house, i learned that garlic not only cured physical ailments, but warded off evil haints as well. The two sides of my lineage that couldn't be more different still share reverence for this magical plant food - a rare bridge between my ancestors through my soul.

It's become my practice to always have no less than two heads of garlic on my counter at all times. Constantly cooking, constantly in conversation with my ancestors through food, imbuing the food i offer those i love with protection & health (& flavor!) blurring the lines between simmering pots of stew & roiling cauldrons of potions...

Black print on mustard yellow canvas, wood, black, & gold toned hanging hardware. Screenprinted by my parter, handsewn on my mom's 1930's Singer sewing machine. 8.5x15" (not including hanging cord or tassels)
