Oleander Banner

Oleander, Nerium Oleander: with a wicked glint in her eye, my mom would look at my dad & sweetly say “I should’ve planted us some oleander” On one hand Oleander is a symbol of epic romance - a hearty shrub that puts on a stunning floral display…on the other hand every part of the plant is poisonous from root to bark to bloom…Never cross a green witch.

Rather than picking flowers & plants to illustrate in any structured way or based on their traditional meanings, I’ve chosen a few flowers to very simply render that tell the story of who my mother was…and hence, who i am.

Original Oleander illustration, screenprinted in-house, & sewn on my mom’s 1930’s Singer sewing machine. Dusty lavender & gold printed on black, finished with gold fringe & hanging hardware - 10.5” wide, 15” long including fringe.
